Expert eye care tailored to you

We provide specialist ophthalmic care from Moonee Ponds, supporting patients across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria with careful assessment, clear communication and personalised treatment planning.

Our approach

Specialist eye care with clear guidance

We are a referral-based ophthalmology practice at Moonee Ponds Surgery, focused on safeguarding and enhancing vision through specialist assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing eye disease management. Our care is designed to be thorough, practical and tailored to each patient’s eye health.

Patients are commonly referred to us for cataract surgery, glaucoma care, retinal conditions, diabetic eye disease, corneal conditions, refractive treatments and eyelid or oculoplastic concerns. We also provide selected onsite treatments, including laser treatments and intraocular injections where clinically appropriate.

We work closely with referring GPs and optometrists so your care is coordinated from the first appointment through to follow-up. You can also learn more about our surgeons and the specialist training that supports our clinical approach.

Patient journey

What to expect when you visit

Your appointment may involve pupil-dilating drops, imaging, visual testing or other assessments depending on your referral. We recommend allowing up to two hours, as some visits require additional testing or procedures.

Please bring your current Medicare card, any pension, Health Care or private insurance cards, a list of current medications and your patient registration form if completed in advance. A current referral from your GP or optometrist is required and helps support your maximum Medicare rebate.

We communicate with referrers about patient progress, supporting coordinated care between our clinic, your GP and your optometrist. Referring clinicians can find more information on our referrers page, while patients can use the contact page to take the next step. If retinal assessment is required, you may also wish to read about retinal surgery and care.

PATIENT QUESTIONS

About your specialist visit

These answers cover common questions about referrals, appointments and preparation. If you need specific guidance, please contact us before your visit.

Yes. A current referral from your GP or optometrist is required. Most referrals are valid for 12 months from the date of issue, and a referral is important for claiming the maximum Medicare rebate.

Pupil-dilating drops are commonly used during eye appointments. These can blur your vision and increase light sensitivity, so we recommend not driving yourself and allowing 1 to 2 hours before driving if needed.

Please allow up to two hours. Appointment length can vary because unplanned testing, procedures or urgent clinical matters may be required on the day.
