Corneal Conditions
We assess and manage corneal conditions affecting the clear front surface of the eye, helping you understand your symptoms, diagnosis and suitable next steps.
Care for the eye’s clear front surface
The cornea is the clear front window of the eye. When it is irritated, irregular, inflamed or otherwise affected, vision may become blurred or distorted, and the eye may feel uncomfortable. We provide specialist assessment and management of corneal conditions as part of our broader ophthalmology services.
Your symptoms do not always show the full picture. A careful examination helps us understand how the cornea is affecting your vision, comfort and eye health. If another eye condition is also present, such as cataract, glaucoma or retinal disease, we consider this when planning your care.
Some patients are referred after an optometrist or GP finds a concern during an eye health check. Others seek advice because of persistent irritation, changing vision or a visible surface change. Where relevant, we may also consider related care such as cataract assessment or broader corneal condition management in the context of your overall eye health.
A clear plan starts with a careful examination
At your appointment, we take time to understand your symptoms, history and referral details. Your examination may include eye drops to dilate the pupils, depending on what needs to be assessed. Please allow up to two hours, as extra testing may be needed on the day.
We focus on practical questions: whether the cornea is affecting your vision, whether symptoms need monitoring or treatment, and whether other parts of the eye also need review. If your care overlaps with another service, we can guide you towards suitable information, such as refractive and injection services, glaucoma care or the relevant surgeon profile on our surgeons.
A current referral from your GP or optometrist is required. This supports coordinated care and is important for claiming the maximum Medicare rebate where eligible.
